Om! May Mitra be propitious to
us. May Varuna be propitious to us.
May Aryaman be propitious to us.
May Indra and Brihaspati be propitious to us.
May Vishnu of vast strides be
propitious to us.

Salutations to Thee, O Vayu.
Thou art indeed the visible
Brahman. Thee alone will I declare as the visible Brahman.
I will declare the right. I will declare
the truth. May that protect me.

शिक्षां व्याख्यास्यामः।
वर्णः स्वरः। मात्रा बलं।

Shiksham vyakhyasyaamah.
Varnaḥ svaraḥ. Maatraa balam.
Saama santaanah. Ityuktah
shikshaadhyaayah.
Meaning:
We will expound the study of
phonetics (Shiksha).
The letters, accents, quantity,
strength, modulation, and union are to be explained.
Thus, is declared the chapter on
phonetics.

Bhootyai na pramaditavyam.

Having brought dear wealth to the
teacher,
do not cut off the line of
progeny.
Do not swerve from truth.
Do not swerve from duty.
Do not neglect personal welfare.

should conduct oneself.
This is the injunction. This is
the teaching.
This is the secret of the Vedas.
